Pakistani Media Is Using Hidustani Instead of Urdu
Urdu is one of the most important elements of the culture of the Muslims of Indian subcontinent. That is why Quaid-e-Azam declared Urdu as the national language of Pakistan.
As, unfortunately, in last 62 years, we failed to emerge as a living society, we became a victim of severe inferiority complex. It compels us to copy others blindly, just to try to raise our self esteem. Our electronic Urdu media is doing the same these days. Instead of speaking Urdu, the people in Urdu media are using Hindustani, just to copy Indian media. Hindustani is an inferior language and not a standard language, contrary to Hindi and Urdu. It is used for low level everyday communication.
The following table shows that how Hindustani is replacing Urdu in our media:
I wish that we should come out of this inferiority complex, and should start living as a nation which has confidence in herself.
One thing is important to clarify here. By no means I am against evolution of Urdu, through positive interaction with other languages. So when Meeraji says:

I take it as evolution of Urdu. But when illiterate and semi-literate media persons borrow expressions from Hindustani, it is clearly a deterioration of the language.
I do not feel it right to raise any objection as far as the usage of Hindi in Urdu is concerned. Even if the expression be borrowed from Sansikrat, its OK.
ReplyDeleteThe only objectionable thing to me is the usage of street language. If proper Hindi is being mixed with Urdu it may be helpful for evolution of Urdu.
As far as the matter of complex is concerned, it has to be investigated whether the usage of Hindi words or expression in Urdu is the result of any kind of complex or just a change which attacts people.

Uzair i think Urdu in the first place is a combination of Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit so what is happening to Urdu is what has been happening to the language since its emergence.
ReplyDeleteBeing a Pakistani i do feel irritated when i find my students imitating Indian stars but not owning our language is not the cause but an effect of lacking self belief by our nation .
